Welcome to 2ned Magazine's fifth episode of the Tour de France program "The Amateur and the Danish Tour Legends", which is dedicated to the Danish riders who have raced and completed at least one Tour de France throughout their careers.
Today's guest is none other than Allan "Smeden" Johansen. Smeden rode one Tour de France during his 13 seasons as a professional, namely on the first Danish Tour de France team ever MemoryCard – Jack & Jones, and in that way he helped write Danish cycling history.

It was a tough Tour de France, where Allan and his teammates could easily feel that the level was much higher than anything they had ever experienced. He himself describes it as two bike races in the race.
Despite riding in the Tour de France, Allan Johansen still had a really great career, especially the spring classics were something that suited him really well both as a person and as a rider. This was evident in the results lists, where Allan has driven home great results such as a 10th and a 15th place in the Tour of Flanders, an 8th place in the Omloop and a fifth place in E3 and Dwars door Vlanderen despite the fact that he often acted as a support rider for Fabian Cancellara in those races. In general, he has performed excellently in one-day races and won, among others, the Danish Championship, Grand Prix Herning and Paris-Bourges.
Hear Allan “The Blacksmith” Johansen tell how, at a late age, he suddenly got the chance to become a professional cyclist, how he experienced riding in a time when some of the competitors rode on nothing but water and sugar, hear him tell about his victories and hear him tell about what it was like to ride classics side by side with some of the world's very best riders in his beloved spring classics. Hear it all in 2ned-Magasinet.
