Amatøren og de danske tourlegender m. Michael Blaudzun

The amateur and the Danish tour legends with Michael Blaudzun

Welcome to 2ned Magazine's sixth episode of the Tour de France program "The Amateur and the Danish Tour Legends", which is dedicated to the Danish riders who have raced and completed at least one Tour de France throughout their careers.

Today's man in the spotlight is none other than long-time CSC rider Michael Blaudzun, who had a long career on the road that was kick-started with a Danish championship in 1994 and only ended 14 years later on the time trial bike at the World Championships in Italy in 2008.

The amateur and the Danish tour legends with Michael Blaudzun

He dedicated most of his career to being a loyal and faithful support rider for several of the biggest stars of the time in service to three of the biggest cycling teams of the period; Rabobank, Telekom and then 10 seasons on the Danish team, which started as the modest Team Home – Jack & Jones, but soon became Team CSC, which quietly developed into the world's best cycling team.

When the captains were named Rolf, Jalabert, Sastre and Basso, there were very few openings to ride your own chance, but when the opportunity finally presented itself, Michael Blaudzun showed on several occasions that he also had the skills to seize them. This gave him, among other things, five Danish championships, two in the line race and three in the time trial, in addition he won overall in both the Herald Sun Tour and the Hessen Rundfahrt. He also participated in 10 Grand Tours, including three times in the Tour de France.

Hear Michael Blaudzun talk about his own amazing career. About the ups and downs, about the Tour de France in 2001 where Laurant Jalabert showed class both on and off the bike, about the Tour de France in 2003 where Team CSC's podium candidate Tyler Hamilton broke his collarbone early in the race, but where the team achieved great success despite it. Hear about it all right now and right here.
